This afternoon my friend Jeremy sent me a link to a Business Week article on a Japanese cold drink made of eel extracts, mostly “from the head and bones”.
Apparently the fish is an excellent source of vitamins A, B1, B2, D and E. My first thought was that the Japanese never cease to find new ways to disgust me.

Our manager called a team meeting for us to meet a new co-worker. I introduced myself as the guy who hits the ground running, taking on all sorts of different projects which made me curious about hacking the embedded system within my 4-port gigabit wireless draft-N router and my broadband residential gateway at home. A co-worker introduced herself as someone who loves working but she rarely uses the computer after the kids go to bed unless she needs to post pictures of her family vacation on Facebook. I couldn’t have seen that one coming from a mile away.

Some days it feels like I hit the ground running. Today it felt more like I lost my breath as I chased the ground as it ran off well ahead of me. I never did catch up; and you know, for the first time in my life, I felt like shutting down my computer, waving a white flag, and sitting on the beach sipping a triple venti soy peppermint macchiatto with extra caramel drizzle.

Today I received an email from Aopen.com. I must have signed up for an account seven years ago when I registered my AK-73(pro)A motherboard. The problem with this email is that it’s all in Chinese. Even after all these years, I’d remember that I registered in English. I don’t write Chinese. Nor do I speak it, much to my grandmother’s chagrin (rest her soul). Plus, I couldn’t even guess as to where an “unsubscribe” link might be found, as there was nothing in the common sections of the email that even resembled one.

Last month, while catching up on old Drew Marshall shows, I found myself drawn into the back story of The Shack, a book by William P. (Paul) Young. Before the end of the 35 minute interview I had already received my confirmation email from Amazon.ca that my order was on its way. I felt compelled to read this book not for the story (which intrigued me slightly), but rather for the back story of how this book went from being a Christmas present for his kids to a self-published work selling over a half a million copies.

Searching for a new career can be tough. I should know. I started out in my teens wanting to draw comic books for a living. In my early twenties I took restaurant and retail jobs to subsidize my new dream of becoming a rock musician. While the dream never died, it became evident that I had to stop working in wait of a dream, and find ways to live the dream while at work.
